Introduction

• With the recent spectacular development in microelectronics, exploitation of new materials, biotechnology, local manufacturing companies, especially of small to medium sizes, have been experiencing growing difficulty in upgrading their capacity to keep up with the progress.
  
  
• To cope with this situation, the Northeastern Industrial Research Center of Shiga prefecture was reconstructed in April in 1997 by the Textile Industry Research Institute and the Machine and Metal Industry Research Institute.
  Textile Industry Research Institute and Machine and Metal Industry Research Institute were established in 1946.
  
  
• NE-IRC has two technical offices ( Nagahama office and Hikone office )
  Nagahama office is placed in Nagahama City.
  Hikone office is placed in Hikone City.
  Nagahama office of NE-IRC consists of such sections as textile, fiber, design, polymer, chemistry
  Hikone office of NE-IRC consists of such sections as machinery, metallic material, chemistry.
  
  
• The Center now plays an important part in the promotion of local industrial development toward the coming century, as the key institution for supporting those companies from the technological side. And is making efforts to become an 'open' and 'reliable' center for prefectural residents.
